The Family Choice Scholarship Application
Resources For Families
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Application requests for the 2012-2013 school year are now being accepted. Applications will be mailed in early March. The application will also be available here in March 2012. The application deadline is May 21, 2012.
Important Message to those interested in applying for scholarships:
Funds for scholarships come from businesses who donate to the program. In exchange, the businesses receive tax credits from the state. In 2009, the state budget reduced the amount of tax credits available to businesses, thereby cutting the amount of funds contributed to programs like the Family Choice Scholarship Program (FCSP). Even before the cuts, demand for scholarships in all EITC programs was much more than available funds.
Thus, only a modest percentage of those who apply to our program actually receive scholarships. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of financial need, with the neediest being most likely to receive scholarships.
So if you have applied for but did not receive a scholarship in the past from FCSP, it is very unlikely you will receive one this time (unless your income has diminished significantly). If you have not applied in the past, but likely would not consider yourself among the financially-neediest families in your child's school, a scholarship may also be unlikely.
We tell you this, first, so that you may count the cost of the application fee (and time and effort to fill it out) in light of the probability of receiving a scholarship, and second, so you are aware of the cuts made in the tax credit program. To find out how you can help prevent future cuts or expand the program, contact the REACH Alliance at (717) 238-1878.
